When his gun goes missing, he becomes suspicious of his wife and daughters, introducing draconian measures that strain family ties as social norms break down. Director Mohammad Rasuloff was originally scheduled to attend the 2023 Cannes Film Festival as a jury member in the “Private Viewing” section.
On May 12, 2024, Rasuloff announced that he had managed to escape from Iran and is in an undisclosed location in Europe
However, he was arrested in July 2022 after criticizing the government’s crackdown on protesters in the southwestern Iranian city of Abadan following the deadly building collapse. On May 8, 2024, Rasuloff’s lawyer announced that he had been sentenced to eight years in prison, in addition to flogging, a fine, and confiscation of assets.
